The October forum topic is Ethical Data Practice: From Storage to Sovereignty

Building on our series Ethical Practices in Community-Engaged Research, we will focus on data sovereignty and its practical considerations. The discussion will examine how data ownership can shift from traditional models to shared ownership. A diverse panel, including researchers, community members, and regulatory experts, will offer perspectives on navigating ethical data use.

Throughout the hour, we plan to address the following questions:

• What is the regulatory framework for data protection?

• What does it look like to engage community members in all aspect of data storage, ownership, interpretation and access?

• How can we address power dynamics?

Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of data sovereignty and how to pursue it in their work.
