Evaluation and Estimation of the Metabolomic Architecture of Insulin Resistance and its Role in Complex Disease

Dr. Allred is a molecular biologist with a research focus of understanding the genetic architecture of complex diseases and underlying risk factors in minority populations. With an emphasis on metabolic disease, her research focuses on type 2 diabetes, obesity, liver disease, nephropathy and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Dr. Allred has applied diverse -omics approaches including whole genome sequencing, metabolomics and transcriptomics. She is involved in multiple large-scale collaborative projects, including the Genetics Underlying Diabetes in Hispanics (GUARDIAN) Consortium where she holds an R01 to investigate the genomic basis of insulin resistance, the NHLBI Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) where she holds an R01 to investigate the contribution of rare genetic variation to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the Genetic of Obesity-associated Liver Disease (GOLD) Consortium where she is a member of the Steering Committee and the COnsortium of METabolomics Studies (COMETS) where she chairs the Diabetes and Obesity Working Group. Dr. Allred is a highly productive faculty member with 172 peer-reviewed publications. She is currently a Professor with tenure in the Department of Biochemistry at Wake Forest School of Medicine.
