Katelyn Jetelina, PhD, MPH, will discuss communicating about the value of public health in an evolving landscape and themes for reimagining public health communication in the 21st century.
This event is co-hosted by the Firearm Injury Prevention Initiative, the Colorado Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and the University of Colorado Injury and Violence Prevention Center.
About the speaker: Dr. Katelyn Jetelina is an epidemiologist and scientific communicator. She is the co-founder of Health Trust Initiative, an adjunct professor at Yale School of Public Health, and former Senior Scientific Advisor to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and White House. In addition, Dr. Jetelina is the founder and CEO of Your Local Epidemiologist- a public health enterprise that “translates” ever-evolving science to the public with a newsletter that has reached over 500 million views in 133 countries. Dr. Jetelina has received numerous national awards, including recently being named a TIME100 Most Influential Person in Health. Katelyn resides with her husband and two toddlers in San Diego, California.
About the Firearm Injury Prevention Initiative: The Firearm Injury Prevention Initiative (FIPI) strives to prevent firearm-related injuries and deaths in homes and communities across Colorado and the U.S. through collaboration, research, and education. We are committed to an approach rooted in recognition of a common goal of health and security, respect for and consideration of a wide range of views and and experiences, and engagement of impacted communities and those with lived experiences.
About the Colorado Office of Gun Violence Prevention: Housed within the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment (CDPHE), the Office of Gun Violence Prevention (OGVP) coordinates and promotes effective strategies to reduce gun violence in Colorado. OGVP collaborates closely with various CDPHE programs and other state partners to conduct public awareness campaigns, administer a grant program, and maintain a resource bank.
About the Injury and Violence Prevention Center: The Injury and Violence Prevention Center (IVPC) is a collaborative program that connects the Colorado School of Public Health and the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Through research, training, and community engagement, IVPC facilitates scientific discovery and evidence-based practice that increases safety, reduces injury and violence. IVPC aims to prevent and reduce negative outcomes in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region as a function of high-quality research and effective practice.
