The Marquette Challenge is an annual grassroots fundraising effort coordinated and carried out by physical therapist and physical therapist assistant students across the country to support the Foundation for Physical Therapy’s mission. Funds raised through the Miami-Marquette Challenge contribute to the rigorous and high quality peer-review process which results in the awarding of all Foundation scholarships and grants. Additionally, since 2002, the Challenge has specifically funded over 20 research grants and scholarships, and also partially funded the 2010 $300,000 Clagett Family Research Grant.

Overview: Traditional medicine divides health into mental and physical domains. Decades of evidence have found this to be a false dichotomy. This course seeks to deepen a Physical Therapist’s understanding of the mind-body process from a mindfulness perspective. Through presentation, experiential practices, and discussion, we explore how harnessing the power of the mind can enhance healing the body. And more importantly, we shift focus from mental and physical health to ‘health’.
