The 17th Annual Gregor Stoddard Visiting Professorship in Neonatology: Neonatal Noon Conference

"Stem Cell-Based Models for Synthetic Human Embryology"

Jianping Fu, PhD
Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering,
Cell & Developmental Biology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Wednesday, May 6, 12–1 p.m.
Mt. Princeton, 2nd Floor Conference and Education Center
Children's Hospital Colorado

The 17th Gregor Stoddard Visiting Professorship in Neonatology is funded by a generous gift from Stoddard/Lynch family of Denver, Colorado. The Stoddard’s have also endowed the “The Abby Stoddard Lectureship in Pediatric Neurology” in the Children’s Neuroscience Institute and “The Stoddard/Lynch Family Lectureship in Pediatric Urology”.

Jianping Fu, PhD, received a BE in 2000 from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and a PhD in 2007 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), both in mechanical engineering. His doctoral thesis was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Jongyoon Han. Dr. Fu was an American Heart Association postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Christopher S. Chen's group at the University of Pennsylvania from 2007 to 2009. Since 2009, he has been a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he was promoted to full professor in 2020. Dr. Fu also holds courtesy appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology (Medical School).

Dr. Fu's research focuses on stem cell bioengineering, developmental bioengineering and mechanobiology, particularly in understanding human development, physiology and disease. Over 150 manuscripts and internationally recognized as a leader in developmental biology and creative approaches to answer questions relevant to human biology – specifically, ”Artificial Embryos”.
