The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is excited to have Dr. Satya Achanta share his work. Here is a breif bio on Dr. Achanta.

Satya Achanta is an Assistant Professor in the department of anesthesiology at Duke University School of Medicine. Satya received his veterinary degree from India. He worked as a mixed animal practitioner for two years before he moved to the United States for his PhD at College of Veterinary Medicine, Oklahoma State University. He started as a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer at Yale University after graduation and then subsequently moved to Duke University where he was promoted to the faculty position.

His overall research interest is to protect the biological barrier from chemical injuries by targeting transient receptor potential (TRP) ion channels; and by activating the mediators of the resolution phase of the inflammation pathway to restore architecture and function. Satya has been actively pursuing medical countermeasures research for the last 14 years. He is actively funded by the NIH CounterACT program and industry partners. At Duke, he established various rodent and large animal models of pulmonary chemical threat agent induced injuries, including chlorine gas, phosgene gas, sulfur dioxide, and tear gas induced pulmonary injury models. He is going to present elements of his recent work, entitled “Translational Animal Models for Phosgene‑Induced Lung Injury: Mechanisms and Medical Countermeasure Development”.
